In industry, magnesium carbonate usually refers to basic magnesium carbonate, which is odorless, non-toxic, and stable in the air in the form of white crystals or amorphous powder. The relative density is 2.1, slightly soluble in water, and the aqueous solution is alkaline; it is easily soluble in acid and ammonium salt solution; once it encounters dilute acid, it decomposes and releases carbon dioxide. When the heating temperature is higher than 300°C, it decomposes to produce magnesium oxide, water and carbon dioxide. At the same time, because basic magnesium carbonate has the characteristics of light texture, non-combustibility and looseness, it can be used as an insulating and high-temperature resistant fireproof and heat-insulating material.
Carbonates have good chemical stability and environmental protection performance. When heated to above 300°C, they will decompose to produce green and pollution-free chemicals such as magnesium oxide, water, and carbon dioxide. Therefore, basic magnesium carbonate is often used as a high-temperature gas coolant for hot aerosol fire extinguishing devices, and its reaction heat and specific heat capacity are key parameters.
In addition, the cooling effect of basic magnesium carbonate when used as a coolant for hot aerosol fire extinguishing devices was preliminarily tested. The test results show that basic magnesium carbonate is an ideal chemical coolant for hot melt fire extinguishing devices. Secondly, due to its stable chemical properties and environmental protection characteristics, as well as its low cost, basic magnesium carbonate has become a commonly used chemical coolant in aerosol fire extinguishing products.
